The blind musical husband-and-wife duo from Mali, Amadou et Mariam, remain amongst Africa’s most stirring & popular musical acts. When I first learned about them years ago, I was awestruck by their story: they met at Bamako’s Institute for the Young Blind in 1976 and quickly found they shared a passion for music & for each other. Since, they’ve dropped all sorts of hits with their strong Malian influence. Their most recent album, Welcome to Mali (2008), included hit song “Sabali,”, which ranked 15 on Pitchfork’s Top 100 Best Tracks of 2008.
