Finish every day and be done with it. You have done what you could; some blunders and absurdities no doubt crept in; forget them as soon as you can. Tomorrow is a new day; you shall begin it serenely and with too high a spirit to be encumbered with your old nonsense.

Listen to the mustn’ts, child. Listen to the don’ts. Listen to the shouldn’ts, the impossibles, the won’ts. Listen to the never haves, then listen close to me. Anything can happen, child. Anything can be.

The Invisible Children

Very rarely do I say things like “stop what you’re doing and watch this now” because, let’s get real,…nothing is that important. But today may be an exception. I kept seeing “Kony 2012” posts everywhere and I’m all thinking “that sucks that they misspelled Sony. Yeah, Sonys are rad. Have you SEEN those Bravia color commercials? They’re the best.” All of a sudden, a friend posts this video on facebook and, as I click on it, all of the rest of my visual peripheral made sense. After a week of lacked perspective and being saddened over things not worthy or deserving of my time, this is exactly what I needed to snap some sense into me. I’m not one to push causes onto people, but this is definitely one that seems worth being -at least- aware of. That being said, I don’t profess any kind of real understanding of how the organization operates so it’s quite possible this is still a case of a non-profit (possibly, in the extreme, a case of white guilt) with great intentions, but with the usual downfalls and potentially negative consequences that come with giving humanitarian aid to a foreign country. Is it more legit than any other nonprofit that does work in Africa? I don’t know. Are they making the complexities of the social & economic problems in Uganda seemingly easy to understand? Sure. But, even if this is a case of being nothing more than a meaningful & strategic use of Final Cut Pro & the editing of indie pop songs into emotional montages, who cares. As long as it gets young people’s attention & makes them think about a world issue other than themselves. I’m ok with that. Plus, props to using creativity & modern technology to get people’s attention and go viral in one day. I’ll drink the kool-aid. Kony 2012. Holler.

Update: after seeing my cousin who only obsesses over weed & girls on fb post about this, I’m inching closer to being over the viral aspect of the “it’s really cool to post” Invisible Chlidren campaign. But hey, like I said above: whatever it takes to bring awareness. So post on, lame cousin. Post on.

In life man commits himself and draws his own portrait, outside of which there is nothing. No doubt this thought may seem harsh to someone who has not made a success of his life. But on the other hand, it helps people to understand that reality alone counts, and that dreams, expectations and hopes only serve to define a man as a broken dream, aborted hopes, and futile expectations.
