Blood Orange - I’m Sorry We Lied (Official Video)
Just when you thought it was safe to go out on a date, this happened. Blood Orange’s playful record, Coastal Grooves, just keeps getting better.

Grimes - Nightmusic (Official Video)
The second video from Claire Boucher’s breakout album as Grimes. It doesn’t really quite match up to the Oblivion video to me (recall: Awesome Video alert), but the barren, greywashed landscape she inhabits and all the “hand puppetry” works with the mystery inherent in this song. Plus, she could be doing her taxes in this video, and she’d still be the raddest in all the land. If you haven’t checked out the album, Visions, yet, you should probably get on that.

Chiddy Bang - Mind Your Manners ft. Icona Pop
Because if there’s anything Chiddy Bang knows how to do, it’s to have fun.

Electric Guest - This Head I Hold (Version 2)
I had posted the previous version of this video back in January. Now, to complement their album, Mondo, having been released yesterday, the band just shared the new version of the video & it’s guuud.
Directed by Keith Schofield. New album “Mondo” out 4/24 available here.

Lana Del Rey - Carmen (Official Video)
The video, which was released over the weekend, is a montage of images evoking 50s and 60s NY life including everything from a stripper on a pole to a baby running into its mother’s arms. Lana, who has credited the many filmmakers behind the youtube clips, also makes a few appearances in the video herself through a warm and grainy filter. Basically, in short, we’re looking at ‘Video Games’ Part Deux.

Willis Earl Beal - Monotony
Judging from the blogosphere, everyone is expecting great things from Willis Earl Beal this year. From what we’ve heard so far from his debut album, Acousmatic Sorcery, he has a penchant for lofi and gut wrenching soul. His music & this video also help to paint a picture of his backstory: train station performances for nobody, impromptu telephonic songs for anyone who dialed the phone number he’d scribble on the art flyers tacked up around town, and, as this video portrays, an uncelebrated and even unnoticed reality. He kind of reminds me of a pre-Roots Cody Chestnut. I’m excited to see what this guy has to offer in 2012.
tUnE-yArDs - ‘My Country’ (Official Music Video)
Apparently, having previously made a video with elementary school kids emulating awesome didn’t keep Merrill Garbus aka tUnE-yArDs from making another of the sort. The newest of these videos for the single “My Country” stars a dozen children from the progressive Bay Area K-12 school, Brightworks, and a non-profit music education program called the San Francisco Rock Project. All are dressed like their fearless leader, Garbus, who would seemingly make a fantastic 3rd grade teacher if this whole music thing doesn’t work out.
Jack White - Sixteen Saltines (Official Music Video). Blunderbuss, out April 24
She’s got stickers on her locker
And the boy’s number’s there in magic marker
I’m hungry and the hunger will linger
I eat sixteen saltine crackers then I lick my fingers
Well, every morning I deliver the news
Black hat, white shoes, and I’m red all over
She’s got a big mailbox that she puts up front
Garbage in,
Garbage out,
She’s getting what she wants
Who’s jealous?
Who’s jealous?
Who’s jealous?
Who’s jealous of who?
If I get busy then i couldn’t care less what you do
But when I’m by myself I think of nothing else
Than if a boy just might be getting through and touching you
Spiked heels make a hole in a lifeboat
Jumping away when I’m talking and laughing as we float
I hear a whistle, that’s how I know she’s home
Lipstick, eyelash, broke mirror, broken home
Force fed, force mixed till I drop dead
You can’t defeat her, when you meet her you’ll get what I said
And Lord knows there’s a method to her madness
But the Lord jokes as I float in a sea of sadness
She doesn’t know but when she’s gone I’ll sit and drink up a few
And I’m sure she’s drinkin too, but wondering what for and who
And I’m solo rowin’. I’m one side of the boat.
Looking out, throwing up, a lifesaver down my throat
Who’s jealous who’s jealous who’s jealous who’s jealous of who?

Van She - Idea of Happiness
The first (fun as shit) single from the Aussie dance-pop act’s new album is given video treatment. It involves a hippie in a banana hammock at a bizarre Christmas party and other wild things that I can’t quite explain so I won’t even attempt to do so. You have the weirdest boner right now, don’t you?

Porcelain Raft - Drifting In and Out
Already one of the acts I’ve posted more consistently about it 2012. First came my ravings about his track, “Put Me To Sleep,” followed by praises of “Unless You Speak From Your Heart.” The dreamy, ethereal putmeinahaze feel has persevered. As has my interest in each newly-released single. Strange Weekend, his debut album, is out now.

The Neighbourhood - Sweater Weather
Forget the track name. This song will definitely be a big hit by summer time. Sweaters tucked away. It’s a sweetly romantic indie pop track dusted with a bit of R&B. If you want more from this group, check out their previously-released track, “Female Robbery,” here which the blogosphere has already dubbed as having a Lana Del Rey-esque opening. I agree.
Lee Fields - Faithful Man (Yours Truly Session recorded at SXSW 2012)
It’s rare you get to hear genuine soul music these days. But thanks to the mini-soul revival that’s been happening these past few years (not hating, I love it), artists that have been around since the 60’s, like Fields, are given the chance to record new albums (though I must admit, I like the idea of a new Womack album, buuut in his first single he doesn’t sound so hot). In Fields’ case, he was able to start a new chapter of his career. And this Yours Truly rendition of “Faithful Man” makes me incredibly appreciative of his efforts. The sound quality is incredible and this is just all-around amazing.

SBTRKT ft. Sampha - Hold On (Official Video)
An amazing visual to accompany SBTRKT’s “Hold On” featuring frequent SBTRKT collaborator, the super talented & up-and-coming vocalist, Sampha. SBTRKT’s self-titled album was released June of last year.
