Lana Del Rey - Never Let Me Go
A previously unreleased Lana Del Rey track. I’m guessing it was a bit too cookie-cutter for Born To Die, but it’s a nice departure from the tryingsohardtobedifferent pop sound that we’ve become accustomed to. Plus, ”If you love me hardcore, then don’t walk away.” Me likey.

So Mark Foster and Isom Innis from Foster the People have a new DJ project called Smims&Belle. Their first remix: Lana Del Rey’s “Blue Jeans”, with a new verse from Azealia Banks. Check out the original and extended versions on their Soundcloud.
I think it’s time to revise that old adage: The only things that are certain in life are death, taxes… and a steady supply of new Lana Del Rey remixes.

Lana Del Rey - Carmen (Official Video)
The video, which was released over the weekend, is a montage of images evoking 50s and 60s NY life including everything from a stripper on a pole to a baby running into its mother’s arms. Lana, who has credited the many filmmakers behind the youtube clips, also makes a few appearances in the video herself through a warm and grainy filter. Basically, in short, we’re looking at ‘Video Games’ Part Deux.

Sans vocals, done completely on a solo guitar. Whatever you may feel about Lana Del Rey or John Mayer, this rendition of “Video Games” is, if nothing else, a pretty impressive bit of guitar work and worth a listen.

Tired of Lana Del Rey remixes? Not so fast. Because I hear my grandmother is in the process of preparing a “Born To Die” remix that will BLOW your minds. No, but seriously, I always love me a good RAC remix. And here we have a new one by the ways of Ms. Del Rey. Granted, I much prefer the Penguin Prison remix to this song (you can listen to that right here), but this one is something I’ll have on repeat in my car throughout the weekend. And now that I’ve possibly introduced you to one of the masters of the remix, here are some other RAC remixes I recommend: (click to listen)

For those unaware, yesterday was the 15th anniversary of Biggie’s March 9, 1997 murder. In honor of Big Papa’s passing, on the way back from making a court appearance in Downtown LA yesterday, I decided to make my way over to the notorious (eh, ehh, geeet it?) intersection Biggie was shot at assuming that some yearly tribute was visible. Nothing. Nada. Zip. So there I was, in my adorable little car at the corner of Wishire & Fairfax, bumping “Hypnotize,” feeling silly that I had made a 30-min tribute detour out of my way to look at construction outside of LACMA. But, as it turns out, people pay tribute in different ways. Not everyone aimlessly hangs out in their car on a street intersection, frantically looking side-to-side for some validation (in my defense, I didn’t know what street corner he was shot at, okkk.)
In proper tribute form, Terry Urban, along with help from Dope Couture, just created a Lana Del Rey and Notorious Big mashup album…Born Ready To Die. Before haters start pulling out their hater juice, I compel them to give it a chance. It’s a perfect marriage of dark and mysterious meets soulful and gritty. If there is ANYTHING Lana is good for, it’s that. And I don’t care what anyone says, hype aside, her album is fantastic. And, Biggie. Well, there’s nothing to say about Biggie aside from him being a timeless classic (hence the protective nature over who he gets the mashup treatment with.) And to top it all off, Lana has previously said that Biggie was one of her biggest musical influences. So now, she can do what her album title informs us she was born to do happy…he is her musical collaborator. And give Lana a break, haters. Biggie would implore you to give her one.more.chance.

A sloppy intro, but a fun mash-up-style remix for you this Friday. Jay-Z’s “Allure” from The Black Album mixed with Lana’s vocals from “Off To The Races. Holler Friday!
Lana Del Rey - Born To Die (PDP 13 Remix)
Lana just got the remix treatment from our favorite Blur & Gorillaz frontman, Damon Albarn. Under the pseudonym PDP 13, Albarn strips the original song of its orchestral layer & creates a bass-heavy club track from the gloomy pop track. The result? The remix we all didn’t know we wanted.

In accordance with a lazy Monday dedicated to music, I gotta say: It pains me to discuss the Lana Del Rey SNL performance & her pee-pee dance. So I will refrain from tearing her a new one. Still rooting for you, Lana. Just step your game up.
LEFT BOY - VIDEO GAMES remix (ft Mirakle)
I’m more excited than I care to admit about Left Boy’s remix of Lana Del Rey’s Video Games (are we on a first name basis yet? Can I just call you Lana?). This could have gone terribly wrong, but his sampling & chopping up of the original actually works pretty well.

…and I rejoice over such a natural beauty getting her much-deserved recognition (sorry, Lana Del Rey, but the news of your modeling contract induced the opposite reaction, having me imagine the crazy poses the shoot director is going to make you do with your crooked & fake upper lip).

Lana Del Rey - Video Games (live at Corinthia Hotel)
Up ‘til now, all the youtube videos (and brutal pitchfork reviews) of Lana Del Rey performing live have done nothing more than make me not want to see it for myself for fear of it ruining Lana for me forever. But this video of her performing ’Video Games’ live at Corinthia Hotel London does the exact opposite. Her voice sounds sublime.
